For those who are intense on computers…?

I am having a problem with my HDD. It is the one from a Toshiba Satellite M55-S325. I think the problem occurred when i updated Trillian. It told me that there was an update and I downloaded it. Then I restarted my computer and when I opened Trillian it said it was missing a language and my computer froze. I held the power button down to restart it but when it tries to restart, it goes past the windows screen and a blue screen pops out really quick and the laptop restarts. I am not able to read the screen at all because it is too quick. This happened when I was working on an essay so I went to Best Buy and bought a Dynex Hard Drive Enclosure Kit and was able to extract it on my friends Apple. However, the kit is not working on any XP that i have tried and was wondering if you knew why? Also, any recommendations on how to save my other files? Thanks for all your help.

Get a windows xp cd, boot from it. when you get to the option “install windows xp”, “repair windows xp with recovery console”,etc. Choose “recovery console” by pressing “R”. It will ask which windows do you want to log into, choose “1″. Then provide password, usually leave it blank and just hit enter. then type this exactly without the quotes, “chkdsk /R”. It may run for quite a while, or it will tell you about what errors you have on the disk. Always my first option as it is the least expensive but very effective.Good Luck!

Start your computer in Safe Mode and try System Restore, selecting a restore point before you installed the update.
