Read the book.A hint: He is a Gentle Man….not just a gentleman.

There is nothing gentle about Bentley Drummle, and there is nothing intrinsically gentlemanly about him. He is crude and crass and a bully. However, Bentley Drummle is considered a gentleman because of the family into which he was born. It’s as simple as that. He was born into the upper class society and is, thus, considered a gentleman.See Chapter 23: “It came to my knowledge, through what passed between Mrs. Pocket and Drummle while I was attentive to my knife and fork, spoon, glasses, and other instruments of self-destruction, that Drummle, whose Christian name was Bentley, was actually the next heir but one to a baronetcy.”I hope this helps.
