They’re looking for insight into your personality, that’s why they’ve chosen such a personal question. If Titanic is your favourite book, pull it off the shelf and start scanning the book again. Each time you come across a piece you particularly liked, stop and read it carefully. Write down what you liked and how it made you feel. Make it personal to you. Also, remember what you didn’t like and try to work out why. They want to know about your feelings, and your passion, and how you articulate these. They also want to see that you’re prepared to take time and effort on an assignment. This is what they’ll expect when you’re studying with them. Remember these people are trained to spot plagiarism. They will realise instantly if the work is not your own. They will compare it with your application and other written work. Also, they may ask you questions about the book at an interview. How embarrassing would that be, if you had not even read the book? Most importantly, if you choose a book that is also a film, make sure you emphasise what you liked about the book, as opposed to the film. Try subtly pulling out parts of the plot that weren’t in the film adaptation. For example, make sure you write about Margaret, rather than Rose (if you’re referring to Ellen Emerson White’s book). Don’t over egg the pudding though – they may think you protest too much!Good luck!
