I have read the Story "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe and also " A Good Man Is Hard To Find" by Flannery O'Connor. I have an essay due that asks for me to Compare the Violence in these two stories... I loved both stories but I do not know where to start this literary analysis essay. Can you give me some ideas?

    I would look at breaking the topic of violence down into categories. Some that might be fruitful points of comparison/contrast: – kinds of violence – verbal and physical, overt and subtle – reasons for the violence (whether it’s thinking or unthinking) – results of the violence for the perpetrators – do they get what they want? – impact of the violence on characters in the story – impact of the violence on the reader – how it is described, whether the reader is supposed to empathize with the victims or the perpetrator – maybe also the connection of gender to the violence, in terms of who is doing what to whomHope that helps!
