What are you teaching a child if you kick them out of school for being late to school? It just discourages them from even trying. It denies them the opportunity to get an education, something they have a right to in this country. The only pro I can think of is that it would minimize the disruption to other students and make less work for the administrators who have to deal with the tardy kid’s attendance record, but I think the actual expulsion process would be more work than the everyday tardiness work.

  4. diagrammitically says:

Well the cons of doing that is that you don’t know the reason why the person is late. They could come from a bad home or another situation like that and are just barely making it to school. The pros would be that kids who are jut messing around and talking with their friends would stop being late. I suppose a compromise would be kids who couldn’t get to school on time could talk to a teacher explaining why they are late and that way the kids who were being late just because they wanted to talk longer would be punished. Hope this helps!

  5. infernally says:

Depends on several factors, not the least of which is the whereabouts of the school. For instance, if this policy were in place in an affluent, suburban neighborhood, it would result in punishing only the most egregious offenders. That’s a sound policy. However, in an inner-city school, it would result in damn near the entire student body expelled within a month.
