Poetry, is it true that you lose it if you don’t use it?

I haven't been able to write anything in months, aside from homework assignments, essays, papers, etc. Some topics have been able to garner my attention, while others just left me agonizing over the keyboard. The thing is, I was starting to improve for a while, but since school started again, and my mind has been hijacked by other things, issues, etc I just haven't had the chance, nor the inspiration to write anything else.My account on Deviantart has been collecting dust, and notes that I take every once in a while when an idea hits me have been stacking into a mountain in my desk drawer.I do believe this is what they call a dry spell.Has anyone else experienced this, and what was it like for you once you started writing again? Did it all just come back to you? Does reading some poetry help, of course?

Ah yes, I have had a dry spell for a few years now. It sucks. But if you have no muse then of course you can’t write it has to come when it isn’t a job to do it. Once in awhile you might wake up in the middle of the night with a creative burst or just in your daily thoughts. What I did was get a tape recorder anytime I had an idea or thought I would say it out loud as it came to me, that way when I was ready to put it in words it was there. Sometimes in life you might just have to do the things that are needed and when you have down time then you can express it. I don’t know if you ever heard of Trent Reznor but he is Nine Inch Nails. I heard a rumor he had writers block for years and then after awhile he came up with some new stuff. It happens to us all.
