Well why does Dean travel? The answer is often women. So pick out each time Dean makes a trip. He might say I need to go see Sal, but often it is, i need to get a divorce or get away from a woman. You could also say that Dean is fleeing his past, looking to reinvent himself with new people. People that see him as the romantic west, rather than a car stealing juvenile. Then what about Sal? I’d go with a prolonged quote here. The one where he talks about all the jazz happening out there, all the parties, all the everything. Sal seems mostly to go because he wants to meet people, new and old friends. He wants to groove a new scene or whatever. So you could try a nice juxtaposition of dean is fleeing his past, Sal is heading towards his future.
